General information on the French Guyana
It is the earth in which four worlds converge: that of the European Economic Community, The Caribbean, America of the South and that of the Indigenous people. Their surface is of approximately 90 thousand square kilometers, what is equal to the sixth part of the national surface. It is the one bigger than the departments that make part of the French Republic. The populational density belongs to 2 inhabitants for square kilometer.
In 1999, it registered a total of 157274 inhabitants. In the last 9 years, the population was increased in a number of 42600, what is equal to 37 percent. We are six: Kali´na, Pahikweneh, Lokono (seated in the Costa); Wayana, Wayapi and Teko, in the interior. The number of its members is difficult to obtain for official conduits, because the French State doesn't authorize censuses considering ethnic approaches. For FOAG, we are an indigenous total of 15 thousand. |

| Evolution of the indigenous movement in Guyana
In 1981 the Association of the Amerindian from the French Guyana is believed to reject the "politics of assimilation and of forced creolización" and it intended "to defend and to promote the indigenous cultures as well as the atmosphere and the traditional socioeconomic activities of the indigenous people."
At the present time, the indigenous people of the Guyana, through the Federation of the Organizations of Amerindian from Guyana (FOAG), they demand the restitution of their rights of Indigenous people, as the international right and to the prospective norms of the human rights.
