The Area of Communications is our work unit where the COICA takes ahead in an autonomous way, the strategic planeación, implementation and efficient use of the processes, technologies and means in Communication and Information, in the Amazon Basin.
The Area of Communication assumes the work of internal and external Communication of the COICA, what includes the support in the design and planeación of Programs of Communication and Technologies of Information in the organizations of each country member and its accompaniment and regional articulation at amazon level.
The Area of Communications has the following objectives:
a. To Strengthen the regional organization of the COICA and of each country member. To implement effective mechanisms of communication between the Directive Council of the COICA and the Directive Council of each one of the organizations members, as well as the communication among if and with their regional organimos of the different units and work programs.
b. To Achieve an active and positive public presence of the indigenous movement in the region. So much in the opinion it publishes of each country member like through the media of the countries of the north.
c. To Develop processes of Communication using those efficiently the available means that go from rotafolios, radiofonía, printed means, audiovisual until the calls New Technologies of the Information. So that used integral and integradoramente contributes from an effective way to the improvement of the quality of life of our people and indigenous communities.
The strategies that we are implemented for this are:
a. Design of a strategic of Communications and of Information Tecnology and their coordination with the organizations national members. A strategic vision of medium and release term that allows us to coordinate the national campaigns and to negotiate with the States, multilateral organisms and the ONG that act or they operate in these environments and in the national and international forums.
b. Creation of a Center of Indigenous Communications as an Unit that develops actions to international level and communication units in each region. This operative center should assume the work of corporate image and of internal communication of the organization. Through the audiovisual production, radiofonía, printed materials, advancing from the Web current Site toward the Amazon Indigenous Portal with their respective tools like Forums, Bulletins, electronic books, etc. So, an efficient use of these means, articulate national and regionally with IT to strengthen the internal communication with the Intranet, System of On-line documentation, etc.
c. to Impel the maximum of informative transparency in the administration and management of resources. A structural and endemic problem in the region is the culture of the corruption. In front of it, the indigenous organizations should be able to inform in a transparent way about the administration, as well as to demand to the international cooperation and the governments, the same behavior.
d. Formation and/or indigenous technicians' upgrade at regional level and of each country member, specialized in Communication and IT. That from our indigenous vision they design the proposals, direct these processes and operate the tools that the social and technological development goes offering.
e. An efficient and effective use of the financial resources, coming from the international cooperation as the impulse to activities of self-financing of the communication processes and IT.
f. Adoption, diffusion and development of facilities for the use of the free Software (open source) in all the work environments with these technologies. Guaranteeing the autonomy, security and sostenibilidad in the indigenous organizations.
g. The intensive study of the best practices, with the summary and diffusion of the experiences in the international environment, by means of a Center of Virtual Documentation that facilitate to us an effective administration of the knowledge.
