RETURNING TO THE “MALOCA”
Amazon Indigenous Agenda

The organizational mandate of COICA is inspired in one fundamental fact: we are part of the peoples that were constituted much before Nation-States, thus, consequently, we have the irrevocable right to self determination, in virtue of which, we define our future and the relationship that we have with Nation-States.

A fundamental argument of the innovative spirit was manifested on the Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin- COICA, and re-stated in the 4th Congress of Manaus, made by our first president, Evaristo Nugkuag Ikanan. “I start re-stating the success of the political project of our peoples, which is summarized in the unity and representativeness that we have achieved. If all the Amazon organizations are present and in addition with a leadership, greatest experience, it is because COICA’s project has seriously advanced. There wouldn’t be any interest or assistance if during the past eight years something new wouldn’t had been produced in the Amazon. In spite of the mistakes we’ve made, we’re glad to end these activities with a historic results”. (1)
