THE BRAND-NEW LEADERSHIP OF COICA BEGINS ITS OPERATION ASSEMBLED IN QUITO, AFTER A ANCIENT CEREMONY OF TRANSITION OF COMMAND

The new Board met in the COICA Headquarters in Quito, on 8 and 9 February. They had busy work schedules, which they began with a review of the Congress held in Iquitos - Peru last November, then proceeded with an evaluation of COICA both politically and administratively; a review of the state of affairs of the partnerships and established immediate action strategies on certain commitments made by the previous administration. These two days were hard work because it also established the Strategic Management Plan 2010 - 2013 of COICA and the Operational Plan for 2010. The same ones who will direct the work of our organization for the coming years on issues such as: Sustainability and life with an emphasis on the struggle for survival of the indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation; The defence of territories and natural resources, own legal systems and constitutional rights, ancestral wisdom and organizational strengthening; Academic and Scientific Education, Development with Identity; Systems of Information and Communication Technologies; |

Women and Family. The week of work to which during the last days forgathered the chairmen of the 9 national organizations represented in COICA and cooperating organizations, concluded with a traditional change of command ceremony preceded by a Uwishim (Wise Shuar Shaman) who took the experiences of the hands of the outgoing Coordinator Egberto Tabo and delivered them to the incoming Coordinator Edwin Vazquez. The Uwishim, also performed the ceremony of cleansing and healing to all incoming leaders, once they swore oath that their efforts will always be based on defending the rights of indigenous peoples. |
